The 5 most important things to know about cleansing

(Weight loss and results are different for each person depending on their weight and metabolism.)

  1. What does a detox cleanse do?

The theories and attempts to explain what healthy, vitamin-rich, plant-based food does in the human body could fill entire volumes. If you have extra time and are looking for some scientific background information, we recommend The China Study by U.S. Professor T. Colin Campbell.

     2.  Are three cleanse days enough, or do I need more?

Three days are perfect for an occasional quick fix. They are ideal if you cleanse regularly or for those who just want to try and see what cleansing is like. We recommend starting off with a minimum of five days. This gives the body enough time to adjust itself, restore the acid-base balance and strike old eating habits from its “nutritional memory.”*

    3.  What is an ideal cleanse day like?

During a cleanse we consume mostly raw, unprocessed fruit and vegetables – ideally in the form of cold-pressed juices or raw food meals. According to taste, however, your meal plan can also be augmented with vegetable soups and other vegan meals. The classic juice cleanse is the most well-known because of its effectiveness and the rapid results it delivers. A person on a classic juice cleanse avoids solid food entirely and usually drinks about six fruit and vegetables juices of approximately 500 ml each throughout the day.

Cleanses based on cold-pressed juices alone are especially effective because they take all of the burden off of the digestive system. After a heavy meal, the digestive system requires 60 to 70% of the body’s energy to function. Ever feel like you just want to go to sleep after lunch? You know exactly what we mean. What is more, each bottle of juice contains up to three kilos of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables. That adds up to nearly 15 kilos a day. It is nearly impossible to consume that quantity of plant-based nutrients in normal, non-liquid form.

A classic juice cleanse day usually starts with an alkaline lemonade, followed by carefully coordinated fruit and vegetables juices that are not too heavy on the fruits and completely free of plants fibers and fruit pulp. The ideal cleanse day ends with a protein-rich vegan nut milk. The six bottles are consumed at regular intervals (approx. every two hours) over the course of the day.

A high-quality cleanse is always plant-based, with several days spent consuming nothing but large quantities of raw fruit and vegetables as well high-quality proteins from nuts, legumes, seeds and sprouts.

You should avoid radical fasting or unhealthy crash diets like Master Cleanses that involve nothing but drinking water with lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup. Not only will you end up with a nutritional deficit, you are almost guaranteed to experience the yo-yo effect as well.*

      4.  What is important in regard to the juices?

The optimum balance of fruit and vegetables is crucial: Pure fruit juices contain too much fructose, which increases our blood sugar levels, triggers ravenous cravings and impairs our bodies’ ability to burn fat. Juice should also contain lots of alkaline vegetables in order to restore the balance of acidity and alkalinity in our bodies. Ideally, vegetables should make up 40 to 50% of the juice content. All DETOX DELIGHT juices therefore contain at least 40% vegetables. The juices in the SUPER GREEN DELIGHT cleanse even contain 50 to 70% vegetables.

High-quality, healthy detox juices are cold-pressed, are not heated or pasteurized and are never thick and lumpy. They are completely free of plant fibers and fruit pulp to ensure maximum rest for the digestive system. DETOX DELIGHT juices are put through an extra sieving process after cold-pressing for this purpose.

    5.   How should I prepare for the cleanse?

During a cleanse, we provide our body with all plant-based foods, giving it an extra helping of energy from vitamin-packed fruit and vegetables. Depending on our previous dietary habits – e.g. if we ate very few healthy foods, lots of white flour, sugar, meat, pre-processed products and drank too much coffee and alcohol – this can be a major adjustment for the body. As a result, it is possible that side effects such as headaches, nausea and even muscle aches may become noticeable in the first one to three days.

To ensure that your cleanse gets off to the smoothest start possible and minimize negative symptoms, we recommend avoiding certain foods a few days beforehand. Ideally, you should gradually phase out animal protein, wheat flour, sugar, alcohol, nicotine and coffee one week prior to starting your cleanse. Of course it is difficult to exercise such discipline in advance, but the results are well worth it: Cravings are avoided and your detox results will usually be better and more long-lasting because the cleanse is indirectly extended in length through the preparatory phase.*
